Week 1

Dear Ellison -

You are one week old!  How can that be?!  I feel like this has been the longest and shortest week of my life!  You are simply amazing and we fall more in love with you every single day.  Although you've only been with us for a week, we already can't remember what life was like before you.  You make our family feel complete.  We are so excited to watch you grow and learn.  Here are some highlights from the week...

-The first couple of days after you were born were spent in the hospital.  You were born on Friday of Labor Day weekend during a blue moon.  We like to say that in true Pirate fashion, you arrived just in time for the first ECU football game of the year.  So, we dressed you in your purple and gold finest even though we didn't even watch the game!  We did beat App State though, so you were obviously the lucky charm!  We were discharged from the hospital on Sunday, September 2...your original due date!  You weighted 6 lbs 14.5 oz when we left.  We escaped uptown Charlotte just in time to avoid the nonsense of the Democratic National Convention.  We arrived home where Gammie, Pop Pop, Paw Paw, and Noni were all waiting for us.  You got to meet your furry brother Buddy for the first time.  He has been so sweet with you.  You saw your room for the first time too!

-You are wearing newborn sized clothes and diapers, and you've got a good bit of room to grow in both.

- Paw Paw and Noni stayed with us until Wednesday of your first week, and Gammie came back and stayed with us from Thursday through Sunday.  It was really nice to have some extra hands around the house and your daddy and I were able to get a little bit of rest.  Just a little though. :-)

-You "played" on your play mat and hung out in your Mamaroo for the first time.

-We gave you a sponge bath, and you screamed the whole time!  I think you were just a little chilly.  We also clipped your nails for the first time.  You have super sharp little paws and you are constantly scratching your pretty face!  We've resorted back to covering your hands with mittens most of the time.

-You had your first appointment at the pediatrician on Tuesday, 48 hours after we were discharged from the hospital.  Everything looked great.  You were back up to 7 lbs even.

-You sort of have your days and nights mixed up.  You sleep like a champ during the day.  We have to wake you up to feed you every three hours and you fall right back to sleep.  At night, you're up every two hours or so and can take up to an hour to get back to sleep.  You sleep really well after your 4:00 am feeding, sometimes for four straight hours!

-And I know I've said it already, but Buddy really does love you!

-We just can't get enough of you.

-Happy First Week, Sweet Girl
